The need to look the part….

Being a PA recruitment agency in London when meeting candidates we know how important it is for a CV to be accompanied by great personal presentation. Sometimes overlooked, presentation is considered extremely important to secretarial recruitment agencies. A temp signing up with a secretarial recruitment agency will be representing that recruitment agency when they get sent out to a client, therefore it is important to know that they will be smart and turn up looking ready for the day. Remember the temp being sent may be one of the only people the client has met face to face within the PA recruitment agency.

Additionally, a lot of people in secretarial roles are representing their companies and bosses as the first person a business associate will meet. If the receptionist looks dishevelled and unkempt, it suggests the company does not care about their image, which ultimately may mean the secretarial recruitment agency lose the company as a client. More importantly for the candidate, many people believe the appearance of a person is a reflection of their work ethic, if they are neat and well dressed their work is often thought to be better than someone who does not take care of their appearance.

At Spotlight, a secretarial recruitment agency we do not believe that good presentation means spending hours in front of the mirror or spending masses on clothes and/or makeup. However, as with most PA recruitment agencies in London we do think it is necessary to have a high standard of personal hygiene and appearance. Arrive with clean, ironed, environment appropriate work attire – this is not always a suit, but it is very rarely ripped jeans. Additionally, if you do enjoy wearing makeup or nail varnish, keep it fairly natural, at least until you know what the rest of the office wears; in most fashion houses nail art is going to go down well, where as in a law firm it may raise a few eyebrows.
