Its time to hire…

There have been tough market conditions for secretarial recruitment over the last few years, with certain sectors coping better than others in this climate. At Spotlight we have noticed clear improvements over the last year and growing confidence from both candidates and clients in regards to salary negotiations, offers and decisions to hire and move. A positive step forward is here. How does this impact secretarial recruitment as a whole though?

The candidate market has seen positive uplift with more candidates considering the right job move and new options. This is demonstrated by more candidates having the confidence to hand in their notice once the right offer comes along instead of the taking the historically sensible option to stay put no matter what. Ultimately this has meant that the job market is more competitive with stronger candidates in the field of secretarial recruitment competing with each other for those top PA roles.

Companies are also finally hiring back for roles they cut during the recession. We are seeing more one to one PA roles instead of a volume of team PA roles which were brought about during cuts and shifting existing employees into roles supporting larger teams.

The Spotlight temp desk has seen a huge boom in 2013 with more companies looking for flexible ways to hire and reduce permanent headcount often for HR or P&L reasons. Often clients are asking to take temps on with ‘temp to perm’ start and want to try them out. This creates a big shift in secretarial recruitment and while it can be a valuable way to do things it also cuts out all of the permanent secretarial job marketing. Something for clients to think about.

In all we are seeing improvements to the secretarial job market in all areas and with Spotlight’s committed focus on first class service alongside top calibre candidates we are looking forward to continued expansion of our client and candidate base in the months to come.
